The challenge
Inaccurate, inconsistent, and hard to use
MajorClarity's platform asked high school students to explore careers through short activities, rate how they felt about each one, and use those ratings to plan their high school courses and life after graduation.
But the activities had been written over time by employees and freelancers who often knew little about the careers they covered. Some were inaccurate, no two were alike, and they were hard-coded, text heavy, and clumsy to use.
my approach
Triage first
I audited every activity and built a triage list. The first priority was correcting obvious inaccuracies and fixing bugs that kept students from finishing.
My approach
Real expertise in a standard format
I set up a workflow where every activity was based on a conversation with someone working in that field, who then reviewed the finished activity.
Finding SMEs in diverse fields from performing arts to accounting meant cold calling professionals across the country. Each activity followed the same day-in-the-life format I designed, so students had a consistent experience from one career to the next.
my approach
As hands-on as e-learning gets
I chose Storyline for its flexibility, taught myself to use it, and built in video, 360-degree photography, and custom JavaScript. I worked with our dev team to make sure the activities ran smoothly on our platform.
My approach
Real expertise in a standard format
Every activity was also published in Spanish.
I used AI translation tools for the first pass, then worked with a Spanish-speaking coworker to check accuracy, especially industry terms and jargon that machine translation tends to get wrong.

Inside the activities
This is the complete Personal Training activity. It’s available in both English and Spanish, and uses video and 360 degree photography.
This is the complete Construction Management activity.
In this interaction from the activity on insurance, I used 360 degree photography to allow the student to document damage to a vehicle.
Results
Live before the renewal date
25+ activities rebuilt, in English and Spanish
Every activity now follows the same day-in-the-life format, with video, 360-degree photography, and interactivity throughout.
Backed by real experts
Each activity is based on an interview with a working professional and reviewed by them before launch.
Student ratings roughly doubled
In beta testing, high school students' average ratings rose from around 2 for the old activities to around 4 out of 5 for engagement, interactivity, and how well the activities showed what working in each field is really like.
“Andrew made it so easy for us to work together. We have a complex product, but he learned it quickly and delivered exactly what we needed and more. He’s exceeded our expectations and laid the foundation for a very successful long term relationship.”
